Chromic Acid Anodizing

Chromic acid anodizing is used when a high level of corrosion resistance is needed and normal anodizing is not an option. It is also used when fatigue strength on parts is an issue. The corrosion protection of chromic acid layers is better than chromate layers. An unsealed chromic acid layer gives a perfect adhesion for lacquering or painting. This layer is often used on parts for the defence and aircraft industry.

The functional properties of chromic acid anodizing are:

  • Good corrosion resistance
  • Good electrical insulation
  • Dimensional stable
  • Low electrical conductivity

AHC Benelux performs this treatment according to MIL-8625 Type 1.

AHC operates a fully automated chromic acid anodizing line. With a extremely reliable process control AHC is able to treat aluminium and aluminium alloys with a high-quality functional chromic acid layer. This creates a high reproducibility of small series up to very large volumes.
